Q: What is Alcohol Awareness Training?
A: Alcohol Awareness Training is a program designed to teach servers and staff how to sell and serve alcohol responsibly. It covers important topics like checking IDs, recognizing signs of intoxication, and understanding the legal responsibilities for alcohol service. Completing this training ensures compliance with Talbot County and state regulations.
Q: Who needs Alcohol Awareness Certification?
A: All bartenders (mixing or pouring drink on premises) must be 21+, and all servers taking and delivering drink orders, must be 18+
Q: What is a “bartender” under Talbot County law?
A: A bartender is any person who mixes or pours drinks for consumption on the licensed premises. This includes opening and pouring beers, wine, and canned cocktails.
Q: Can someone under 21 serve alcohol?
A: Yes. If they are at least 18 and are alcohol awareness certified! But no, they cannot mix or pour drinks. Only take and deliver orders.

Next Alcohol Awareness Certification Class
Our next certification class is scheduled for Tuesday, August 19, from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the Talbot County Community Center (Wye Oak Room). This class covers everything you need to know to meet state and local requirements for serving alcohol responsibly. Spots are limited, so be sure to register early!
