Summary:
Reporting to the Director of Economic Development and Tourism, the Tourism & Marketing Assistant will support Talbot County’s promotion efforts by assisting with content creation, marketing initiatives, special events, and administrative projects. The position assists in showcasing Talbot County as a premier destination.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
· Develop, edit, and post content for website and social media channels.
· Develop short-form video content, including reels, stories, and promotional videos.
· Assist in maintaining accurate information on tourism-related websites, event calendars, and partner listings.
· Assist with social media management, including scheduling posts, responding to inquiries, and monitoring engagement.
· Support tourism-sponsored events, familiarization (FAM) tours, media visits, and promotional programs as needed.
· Attend community events, festivals, and tourism-related activities as assigned.
· Maintain inventories of tourism publications, promotional materials, and giveaway items.
· Assist with data collection, reporting, and tourism research projects.
· Perform general administrative duties, including filing, record keeping, meeting preparation, and special projects.
Qualifications:
· One (1) year of experience in tourism, hospitality, communications, marketing, public relations, event planning, or a related field preferred. Equivalent combinations of education, internships, volunteer experience, and relevant work experience may be considered.
· Strong knowledge of Talbot County, Maryland’s Eastern Shore, and the tourism industry.
· Experienced with Meta for Business to manage social media channels, including but not limited to Facebook and Instagram as well as platforms for LinkedIn and YouTube.
· Experience with Canva, Adobe Express, or similar graphic design platforms preferred.
· Excellent writing, proofreading, and editing skills.
· Ability to create reels, stories, and other short-form videos.
· Strong organization skills and attention to details.
· Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
· Knowledge of Microsoft Office is required.
· Experience with WordPress or website content management systems preferred.
Hours will generally range from 5–15 hours per week and may increase during special events, peak tourism seasons, or project-based assignments. Evening and weekend hours will occasionally be required, with advanced notice.
